War Dogs History

During 1914-1918 dogs were used to deliver vital messages. In the picture shown is Sergeant Stubby, a Boston Bull Terrier, that was the most decorated War Dog of WWI.

Between 1941- 1945 the Soviet Union used anti-tank dogs to destroy invading German Tanks.

Between 1943- 1945 the Marine Corps used dogs donated by American Owners. Of the 549 dogs that returned from the war, only 4 could not be returned to civilian life. Many of the handlers that could not find the previous owners went home with their new companion.

During 1966-1973 US War Dogs served in Vietnam and saved over 10,000 lives. Everyone wanted to be friends with the dog handlers, after they realized how easily the dogs could detect their enemies in the thick jungle.

Dogs have been used for a wide variety of missions since then and have stuck to certain breeds such as German Shepherds, Belgian Malinois, Dutch Shepherds, and Labradors. These four legged animals have been kicking ass side by side with man for a long time!
